Commercial Realtors honored at award banquet held for big deal-makers Friday, March 22, 2002 Greg Thomas)
The area’s top commercial real estate
agents counted their commissions and celebrated the big deals of 2001 during
the New Orleans Metropolitan Association of Realtors Commercial Investment
Division’s annual awards banquet Thursday night at the Metairie Country Club.
Brokers Steve Reisig and Barry Spizer
of SRSA Commercial Real Estate won the F. Poche Waguespack Award for best
overall performance for the second year in a row. Reisig and Spizer also shared Top Industrial Sale honors with
Daniel Poulin of Industrial Development & Brokerage for the sale of the
First Industrial Properties portfolio at James Business Park and elsewhere to
Sealy SRLA Office LLC for $63.5 million.
The Top Overall Volume Award, first
recipient category, was Rhonda Sharkawy of Stirling Properties Inc. for
transactions of $13.7 million, including the sale of a Hammond site to Walgreen
Drugstores. The Top Industrial Lease Award went to Keith Henry of Max J. Derbes
Realtors Inc. for a $1.3 million lease transaction. Marty Gerrets of Columbus Properties took Top Retail Sale honors
for the $6.7 million sale of 3900 Airline Drive, a closed Real Superstore, for
the development of a Sam’s Club. Larry Rabin of Corporate Realty won Top Retail
Lease for two Best Buy transactions, in the Baton Rouge and Slidell, totaling
$9.2 million.
The Top Office Lease was shared by Richard Juge of Re/Max Commercial
Brokers Inc., Toni Van Zandt of Re/Max Commercial
Real Estate and Greg Riera of Jones, Lang, LaSalle Americas Inc. for a lease
valued at $12.5 million at 1555 Poydras St. Brokers did not sign releases
revealing the tenant.
The Top Office Sale went to Russell
Palmer of Corporate Realty for a $12 million out-of-town sale. Top Overall
Office Producer went to Bennett Davis of Corporate Realty for a $15.3 million
deal in Texas for a mental health provider.
Larry Schedler of Larry G. Schedler & Associates took both Top
Multifamily Producer and Top Multifamily Sale for sales including an eastern
New Orleans property.
The Special Purpose Award went to
Robert Spratt of Latter & Blum Inc. Realtors for a $3.9 million deal, while
the Top Overall Special Purpose Award went to Bobby Talbot of Talbot Realty
Group for a $7.7 million parcel sale to the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
The Energizer Bunny Award again went
to Jack Fisher of Latter & Blum for the most transactions in 2001. He
completed 64 transactions. Fisher also accepted the Peanut Award for the
smallest transaction: $225.
For the fifth year, Don Randon of Don
Randon Real Estate Inc. hosted the event, which also featured video appearances
of various local officials, including a cameo appearance by Jefferson Parish
Harry Lee.
Members of the Commercial Investment
Division of the local Realtors board have various professional designations,
from Certified Commercial Investment Member to the Society of Industrial and
Office Realtors. They specialize in all aspects of commercial real estate,
